Marketing Employee Spotlight at Calendly

Courtney Attebery started at Calendly as an intern when she was finishing college at Georgia State University. Though her focus then was on administrative tasks supporting our CEO, she quickly found an affinity for marketing. When discussing her future at the company, Tope (CEO of Calendly) encouraged this interest and supported her transition to a full-time member of the marketing team at Calendly! Not only does Courtney learn extremely fast and care deeply about our customers, she also makes some mean lemon bars, which the entire team at Calendly greatly appreciates. She shares a bit more about her journey at Calendly and what brought her here.

How did you get into your line of work?

Growing up, I thought I wanted to be a medical doctor and was planning on being a pre-med student in college. Then, the summer after my senior year of high school, I read Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos. I immediately became obsessed with business and specifically marketing. The challenge of researching and knowing a customer’s needs and then implementing ways to communicate how your company fits those needs excited me!

What’s a typical day or week look like for you at Calendly?

Typically, my days are spent collaborating with our product and design teams in some way. I am often doing things like analyzing our retention and conversion funnels to identify usage and conversion opportunities, defining product release communications, standardizing the feature communication process and analyzing user data and market insights to define product positioning and content. But that’s a bunch of technical talk. When it comes down to it, my main focus is knowing our customers and their pain points with scheduling more deeply so we can provide them the best experience possible with Calendly! What are you most proud of with regards to your career?

I am most proud of my determination. I am not very far into my career (a little over a year), but once I realized doing marketing in the startup space was something I wanted, I worked hard to make that happen. So I fast-tracked through college, worked for a small business in Atlanta while studying and graduated a year early. At 22, I am proud to say I will have been with Calendly for over 2 years! And I have learned more these past 2 years here than I ever did in college.Who is someone that inspires you?

My dad. He has faithfully worked for the same company for almost 30 years. He has worked his way to success from very little and he has come to be an expert at what he does. His level of commitment and sacrifice for others (including me) inspires me.What are words you try to live by? Or the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

“It isn’t always about how good you are at what you do, it is about how you do it.”

For me, life isn’t just about being the greatest there ever was. Giving things 110% and doing them with integrity is far more important to me. I aim to have my actions be filled with purpose. To me, success is nothing if I have not come by it honestly. What’s one thing you’ve had to overcome to get to where you are today?

My age. I will say, I am very fortunate to work with people who tend to forget that I am so young, they treat me equally and I am thankful for that. However, within myself, I have had to overcome my insecurities that I don’t deserve to be here or I can’t contribute anything valuable because I’m young. What advice would you give to someone applying for a job in your department?

Have a passion for research, customers and communication! Calendly has some of the best customers around and we love learning more about them and tailoring things to their needs, so you should too. What do you think it takes to be succesful at Calendly?

To be successful at Calendly you need to be a hard-working problem solver. One of the biggest things that I think drives our success is everyone’s ability to push through and find a way even when it seems impossible. What’s your favorite Atlanta neighborhood?

Inman Park/Old 4th Ward—my husband and I live here and on the weekends we barely ever drive. There are so many great places to walk to eat. We also love to be active so we will often walk, run, bike or skateboard the BeltLine. Our top three favorite restaurants in the area are Bar Taco, A Mano and Superica. How do you get to work?

Electric bike! What are 3 of your favorite things?YogaTacosChicago (and if you want to get tacos in Chicago you should check out Antique taco.)

What are you bingeing right now?

TV: “Homecoming”

Book: “A House In The Sky by Amanda Lindhout”

Podcast: “My Favorite Murder”Why do you choose to work at Calendly?

It truly is a product I believe in and I love being part of something that is really changing the way people work. I also love the people I work with.
